KUCHING — Her Royal Highness Tengku Ampuan Pahang, Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah Almarhum Sultan Iskandar Al-Haj, has concluded her four-day official visit to Kuching, marking the end of a meaningful royal engagement that honoured tradition, culture, and Sarawak’s deep-rooted heritage.
Her Majesty, accompanied by her daughter, Tengku Puteri Raja Tengku Puteri Jihan Azizah ‘Athiyatullah Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah, arrived at the VIP Terminal of Kuching International Airport (KIA) at about 9.00 a.m. where they were warmly received by Deputy Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts, Datuk Snowdan Lawan, his wife Datin Melinda Claudia, and several dignitaries. Their Royal Highnesses later departed for Kuala Lumpur International Airport at approximately 10.15 a.m.
The visit featured a strong emphasis on cultural appreciation and support for local artisans. Last Sunday, Her Majesty attended the Launch Ceremony of Sense of Malaysia at KIA, where she viewed an extensive range of Sarawak artisan products on display. The programme continued with Her Majesty gracing the Launch Ceremony of the Borneo International Textile Festival (BITF) Expo 2025 at the Borneo Cultures Museum. In the evening, she officiated the launch of BITF 2025 at Pullman Hotel Kuching, marking another significant step in elevating Bornean textile artistry.
Her Majesty’s engagements extended into Monday as she attended the BITF 2025 Seminar, demonstrating continued support for the development and preservation of the textile industry. She later visited the Juma’ani Pavilion in conjunction with its third anniversary, where she observed sewing demonstrations and the traditional songket weaving process. These activities highlighted Her Majesty’s commitment to promoting cultural heritage and encouraging future generations to appreciate the artistry deeply rooted in the region’s traditions.
As the royal visit comes to a close, Sarawak bids farewell with gratitude for Her Majesty’s presence and contributions. The four-day engagement not only strengthened ties between Pahang and Sarawak but also reinforced the importance of preserving and celebrating local culture through meaningful participation and recognition.
