MIRI – A total of 72 organisations, associations and charitable bodies in the Senadin constituency have received Rural Minor Project (MRP) grants amounting to RM525,910, aimed at strengthening grassroots initiatives and improving community welfare.
The presentation ceremony was hosted by the Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) Senadin Branch in Permyjaya and officiated by Sarawak Transport Minister and Senadin Assemblyman, Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin. The event marked the final round of MRP allocations for the year.
Speaking at the ceremony, Dato Sri Lee explained that the grants were designed to support local organisations in carrying out programmes that enhance the quality of life for residents.
“This grant handover is the last session this year. I hope that this grant can drive the implementation of various social, welfare and community programmes that will greatly benefit the community. We want the recipient organisations to play an active role in the development of the area,” he said.
The minister also highlighted the importance of unity in Sarawak’s progress, stressing that harmony across communities has been achieved through consistent efforts by leaders to foster inclusivity.
“We are all children of Sarawak. Regardless of race or religion, we are in one family called Sarawak,” he added.
The MRP scheme, introduced by the Sarawak government, has been widely implemented across constituencies to empower local organisations.
Earlier this year, similar allocations were made in other districts, including RM257,000 distributed to 30 organisations in Senadin in late 2024, and RM601,100 awarded to 97 groups in Miri in July 2025.
These grants have supported a wide range of initiatives, from upgrading community facilities to funding welfare programmes.
In Senadin, the latest distribution is expected to strengthen cooperation between the state government and grassroots organisations.
The funds will enable recipients to carry out projects in areas such as education, welfare, cultural activities, and neighbourhood development.
Local leaders believe such initiatives are crucial in ensuring inclusive growth and maintaining social cohesion.
The ceremony also underscored the government’s ongoing commitment to community empowerment. By working closely with non-governmental organisations, religious bodies, and local associations, the state aims to ensure that development reaches all levels of society.
The grants not only provide financial assistance but also encourage organisations to take on a more active role in shaping the future of their communities.
With the conclusion of this year’s allocations, attention will now turn to monitoring the impact of these programmes and preparing for future rounds of support.
