Speaking at the Bakul Kasih and Jelajah Wanita Zon Merapok Programme at the Ulu Merapok Service Centre, he highlighted the importance of grassroots participation in strengthening the district’s progress.

He noted that local economic activities, such as selling agricultural produce including lemiding, poultry, goats, and other food products, play a vital role in sustaining development. “Let us not think that we do not contribute to economic development. In fact, we all contribute,” he said.

Awang Tengah also announced that new facilities are being introduced to agricultural areas, with large-scale development projects expected to have a significant impact on community well-being.

He revealed that the Rural Water Supply Department (JBALB) is ready to accept applications for water connections in Ulu Merapok, while improvements to electricity coverage and telecommunications are also being planned.

These upgrades, he explained, will enhance communication, mobility, and marketing opportunities for local products.

The event also underscored the government’s commitment to social welfare. The Basket of Love Pemedulian initiative provided aid to chronic patients in Merapok who have lost their income, symbolising compassion and care for vulnerable groups.

In addition, cheques totalling RM40,000 were handed over to three villages – Kampung Tanah Sibagol, Kampung Bukit Puan, and Kampung Sasa – under the Flower Purchase Programme.

This initiative aims to strengthen rural economies and encourage active community participation in district development.

Awang Tengah stressed that close cooperation between residents and stakeholders is essential to ensure Lawas continues to grow into a progressive, prosperous, and competitive district.

He reiterated that both social support and economic empowerment must go hand in hand to achieve balanced development.

The programme highlighted how Lawas is advancing through a combination of welfare initiatives and infrastructure improvements, laying the foundation for long-term prosperity and inclusivity across the district.
