In a poignant ceremony held at the Anor Mosque within the Lumut Naval Base, a special sermon and Yasin recital took place to honor and remember the ten Navy officers who tragically lost their lives in the helicopter crash on April 23rd. The event, attended by approximately 3,000 Navy personnel, served as a solemn tribute to the fallen heroes.

Dignitaries Grace the Occasion

The ceremony was graced by the presence of Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, the Sultan of Selangor and also the Navy Captain in Chief, adding a significant touch of reverence to the proceedings. Joining him were distinguished guests including Defense Minister Datuk Seri Muhammad Khaled Nordan and Navy Chief Admiral Tan Sri Abdul Rahman Aob.

Nationwide Commemoration

Simultaneously, a similar event unfolded at the Ibnu Batuta Mosque in Kota Kinabalu, marking a nationwide remembrance of the Navy officers who perished in the tragic accident.

Cancelation of Anniversary Celebrations

The solemnity of the occasion was further emphasized by the cancellation of the Royal Malaysian Navy’s 90th-anniversary celebration parade and related events, initially scheduled to commence on Saturday. This decision reflects the somber mood and collective mourning following the devastating incident.

Recap of the Tragedy

The helicopter crash on April 23rd shook the nation, as two Navy helicopters collided midair before crashing into a stadium and a nearby swimming pool at the Lumut Naval Base, claiming the lives of ten brave Navy officers.
