Awla Dris, State Assemblyman for Simunjan, underscored the importance of education not only in academic achievement but also in cultivating discipline, character, and identity among students.

He emphasised that these qualities are essential in producing a knowledgeable and competitive generation capable of meeting future challenges.

Speaking at the Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Abang Man Excellence Awards Ceremony on Tuesday, Awla highlighted his commitment to prioritising education as part of his responsibilities as an elected representative.

He noted that education plays a central role in building a strong foundation for Sarawak’s long-term development.

“Education is not just about academic achievement, but rather includes the formation of character, discipline and a strong identity among students,” he said, reminding students that success must be viewed as a stepping stone rather than a final destination.

Awla encouraged pupils to continue striving for excellence, urging them to challenge themselves and work hard to build a brighter future.

He expressed hope that students of SK Abang Man would grow into responsible and moral individuals, aligned with Malaysia’s broader educational aspirations.

The ceremony recognised the achievements of students in both academic and co-curricular fields, serving as motivation for continued progress.

Certificates and awards were presented to outstanding students, reinforcing the importance of perseverance and dedication in education.

Also present at the event were Dayang Norliza Awang Yem, representing the School Management Sector of the Simunjan District Education Office, and Baharim Md. Daud, Headmaster of SK Abang Man.

Their attendance reflected the collective support of educators and administrators in nurturing student growth.

The Excellence Awards Ceremony at SK Abang Man is part of ongoing efforts to celebrate student success and inspire continuous improvement.

It also highlights the broader vision of Sarawak’s education system, which seeks to balance academic performance with values and character-building.

As Sarawak moves towards its development goals, education remains a cornerstone in ensuring that future generations are equipped with the knowledge, skills, and values needed to contribute to a sustainable and prosperous society.
