PANTU – The government has allocated RM600,000 to assist flood victims in the Pantu District, reflecting its commitment to safeguarding community welfare in times of natural disaster.
Pantu District Officer Raca Mulong announced that the aid is specifically targeted at households in longhouses affected by floods lasting more than 48 hours. Each eligible household will receive RM1,000, subject to claim and verification procedures.
Speaking at the Pre-Christmas Gathering organised by the Pantu District Office, Raca emphasised that the financial assistance demonstrates the government’s continued dedication to prioritising the wellbeing of residents, particularly those whose daily lives are disrupted by floods.
He noted that the initiative not only provides relief but also strengthens community resilience, ensuring that longhouse families receive timely support during emergencies.
The Pre-Christmas Gathering itself served as a platform for unity and celebration, bringing together residents from diverse backgrounds.
The programme, which began at 4pm, featured Christmas carolling, a Christmas tree light-up ceremony, a potluck dinner, gift exchanges, and performances by St Stephen’s Church. Certificates of appreciation were also presented to individuals who contributed to the event’s success.
Raca highlighted that such community programmes are vital in fostering harmony and togetherness, reinforcing social bonds while celebrating festive traditions.
The allocation of RM600,000 underscores the government’s broader commitment to disaster relief and community welfare, ensuring that affected families in Pantu receive both practical assistance and moral support during the festive season.
