BA’KELALAN – Pustaka Negeri Sarawak has reinforced its commitment to rural empowerment by hosting the Sustainable Sarawak Roadshow 2025 in Kampung Buduk Nur, Ba’kelalan.
The initiative, designed to advance the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), focused on strengthening information literacy and promoting sustainable practices among local communities.
The two-day programme featured a wide range of activities, including workshops, exhibitions, and health screenings.
These sessions were tailored to raise awareness of environmental protection, social well-being, and economic resilience, aligning with Sarawak’s broader vision of inclusive and balanced growth.
The closing ceremony was officiated by Wan Mazli Wan Razali, Deputy Chief Executive Officer (Operations) of Pustaka Negeri Sarawak.
He emphasised that the roadshow reflects the state government’s mandate to empower communities, particularly in rural areas, by equipping them with knowledge and practical tools to support sustainable development.
Participants engaged in interactive sessions covering topics such as information literacy, sustainable community exploration, and environmental awareness.
Competitions, talks, and exhibitions by government departments and agencies added further depth, ensuring that all age groups and community levels were actively involved.
This inclusive approach is intended to encourage residents to recognise their responsibilities in achieving balanced development across social, economic, and environmental dimensions. By fostering grassroots participation, the roadshow contributes to Sarawak’s long-term sustainability agenda.
The event was supported by multiple organisations, including the Lawas District Office, Kampung Buduk Nur Development Committee, Lawas District Council, Lawas District Health Office, Natural Resources and Environment Board (NREB), Universiti Malaysia Sabah, and the People’s Trust Council of Limbang and Lawas Districts.
Their collaboration ensured the smooth execution of the programme and the achievement of its objectives.
Sarawak has been actively pursuing sustainability initiatives, with state authorities developing roadmaps for all local councils to implement SDGs at the community level.
These efforts complement national strategies such as the Agropolitan Programme, which addresses rural poverty through structured agricultural projects and training.
Together, such initiatives highlight the state’s determination to integrate sustainable development into everyday life.
Pustaka Negeri Sarawak hopes that the Ba’kelalan roadshow will serve as a model for future programmes, demonstrating how rural communities can become more proactive, informed, and committed to advancing sustainability.
The organisation envisions similar initiatives across Sarawak, ensuring that even remote areas are included in the state’s journey towards a greener and more resilient future.
