SRI AMAN – The Sarawak Premier, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Haji Abdul Rahman Zohari bin Tun Datuk Abang Haji Openg, visited the Sri Aman Public Works Department (JKR) office on 20 December 2025 to receive a detailed briefing on the town’s traffic light project.
The initiative is intended to improve traffic flow and enhance safety for local residents, particularly in areas where congestion has been a growing concern.
The Premier’s visit underscored the government’s commitment to ensuring that infrastructure projects are closely monitored and delivered effectively.
Officials from JKR presented updates on the progress of the installation, highlighting how the new traffic system is expected to ease movement within the town centre and surrounding areas.
The project forms part of wider efforts to modernise Sri Aman’s infrastructure, aligning with the state’s broader development agenda.
The Premier’s stop at JKR came shortly after he officiated the opening of the Sri Aman Islamic Complex, a new facility designed to serve as a hub for religious, social, and administrative activities.
The dual engagements reflect the state’s focus on both community development and infrastructure upgrades.
Traffic management has been a recurring issue in growing towns across Sarawak, with local authorities working to balance urban expansion and road safety.
The introduction of traffic lights in Sri Aman is expected to reduce bottlenecks, improve pedestrian safety, and support smoother logistics for businesses.
Residents have long called for improvements to road systems, citing difficulties during peak hours and the need for safer crossings.
The Premier’s visit to JKR signals responsiveness to these concerns, ensuring that the project remains on track and meets community expectations.
The traffic light installation is part of a series of infrastructure projects announced in recent months, including plans for a new waterfront and road upgrades in Sri Aman.
Together, these initiatives aim to strengthen connectivity, boost local commerce, and enhance the quality of life for residents.
By engaging directly with JKR officials, the Premier reinforced the importance of accountability in public works.
His presence also highlighted the government’s intention to reinvest state revenue into projects that directly benefit the people.
As Sri Aman continues to grow, the traffic light project is seen as a practical step towards modernising the town’s transport system, ensuring that development keeps pace with the needs of its population.
