Snowdan Lawan Stresses Role of Parents in Children’s Education

BALAI RINGIN – Educated and knowledgeable children are invaluable assets to families and society, said Datuk Snowdan Lawan, Sarawak Deputy Minister of Tourism, Creative Industries and Performing Arts.

Speaking at the Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Balai Ringin Appreciation Dinner held at the Balai Ringin Sports Complex Hall, the Balai Ringin State Assemblyman urged parents to play an active role in monitoring their children’s academic progress, behaviour, social interactions, and extracurricular activities

He emphasised that such involvement is crucial in shaping balanced personalities and preparing children for future responsibilities.

“I urge parents to always monitor their children’s academic performance, behaviour, social interaction and activities to form a balanced personality,” he said.

Datuk Snowdan also reminded all stakeholders to work together in preventing and eradicating bullying in schools, stressing that a safe and conducive learning environment is essential for students to thrive.

During the event, he presented Certificates of Appreciation to five retired teachers, recognising their dedication and contributions to education.

He also honoured four outstanding students with awards across three categories: the Student Icon Award, the Co-Curricular Award (two recipients), and the Commendable Personality Award.

In addition, Datuk Snowdan announced a RM15,000 allocation to the Parent Teacher Association (PIBG) of SK Balai Ringin.

He also donated two sets of Smart Interactive TVs to enhance teaching and learning at the school, reflecting his commitment to improving educational facilities.

The Appreciation Dinner served as a platform to celebrate achievements and highlight the importance of collaboration between parents, teachers, and the community in nurturing future generations.

Datuk Snowdan’s remarks reinforced the message that education is not only the responsibility of schools but also a shared duty of families and society.

Observers noted that his call for parental involvement aligns with broader educational goals in Sarawak, where emphasis is placed on holistic development, discipline, and the integration of technology in classrooms.

The event also showcased the community’s appreciation for educators and students who contribute to academic excellence and positive character building.
