New Year Charity Run to Unite Over 2,000 in Kuching

New Year Charity Run to Unite Over 2,000 in Kuching

KUCHING: The spirit of a new beginning and community care will come together on January 1, 2026, when the 12th Annual New Year’s Resolution Charity Run is held at the Kuching South City Hall Plaza. Organised by the City Jogger’s Club, the event is expected to draw more than 2,000 participants from all walks of life, making it one of the most anticipated New Year community runs in the city.

Scheduled for the early hours of New Year’s Day, the charity run will offer two categories, a 7km run and a 3km fun run, catering to both seasoned runners and families looking to start the year on a healthy and meaningful note. The 7km category is set to flag off at 6.30 am, followed by the 3km fun run at 6.45 am. Participants will first take part in a Zumba warm-up session, which is expected to create a lively and inclusive atmosphere suitable for all ages.

The event will be officiated by Kuching South City Council Mayor Dato’ Wong Hong Seng, with Deputy Mayor Dato’ Zaidi also present to officiate the opening ceremony. Their involvement reflects the strong support from local authorities towards programmes that combine healthy living with charitable causes.

This year’s theme, “Every step for charity, every heart for community,” reflects the core purpose of the run. Beyond physical activity, the event aims to foster unity and social responsibility among participants. A key highlight of the morning will be the donation cheque handover ceremony scheduled for 7.45 am, underscoring the charitable mission of the run.

Funds raised from the event will be channelled to five non-governmental organisations, namely the Sarawak Humane Animal Society, the Kuching Autism Association Resource and Education Centre, the Kuching Scout Association, the Kuching Life Care Association, and the Kuching Palliative Care Association. The organisers have reaffirmed that supporting these organisations is part of their ongoing commitment to giving back to the community.

The smooth organisation of the event will be made possible through the support of various partners and sponsors, including Kuching South City Council, 38 Love Charity Foundation as the main sponsor, Go Beyond Enterprise, Mayora Malaysia Sdn Bhd, VICO, Aeon Mall Kuching, Y Sandal (Sarawak) Sdn Bhd, Lee Fah Mee Sdn Bhd, TLS Marketing Sdn Bhd, May Chia, Delfi Marketing Sdn Bhd, and Sarawak Daily as the media partner.

The charity run will conclude with a lucky draw featuring more than 40 prizes, adding excitement and a festive mood to the meaningful morning. Organisers have expressed hope that the New Year’s Resolution Charity Run will continue to grow in the coming years, strengthening community bonds and creating lasting social impact, one step at a time.
