Foreign Man Arrested for TM Cable Theft in Miri

MIRI – A foreign man was arrested in connection with a case of cable theft in the Manong Niah area, Miri district. The arrest took place at approximately 4:51 pm on Monday, following the discovery of tampering and theft involving Telekom Malaysia (TM) fiber cables along the roadside.

According to reports, a total of three suspects were attempting to collect TM’s fiber cable wires in the area. While two managed to escape, one individual was successfully apprehended by a TM Sdn Bhd contractor. During the arrest, authorities seized a sack of aluminium sheets weighing around 3.3 kilograms, which are believed to be related to the case.

The complainant personally handed over the suspect to the Batu Niah Police Station for further investigation. Authorities confirmed that the case is being investigated under Section 431A of the Penal Code, which addresses acts of theft and mischief involving property.

Police have urged the public to avoid involvement in criminal activities and to remain vigilant. They also encouraged residents to report any suspicious activity to the authorities, reinforcing community cooperation as an essential element in combating crime in the Miri district.

This arrest highlights ongoing efforts by law enforcement and local companies to protect public infrastructure and ensure the safety of essential services. TM officials stated that such incidents not only cause service disruptions but also pose potential safety risks to the community.

As investigations continue, authorities have assured that any individuals found aiding or participating in similar offences will face strict legal action. The case serves as a reminder of the importance of community awareness and vigilance against criminal activities.
