AirBorneo Urges Public Backing as Collaborative Aviation Plan Unfolds

KUCHING – AirBorneo has outlined a collaborative strategy for its next phase of operations, emphasising service improvements and stronger partnerships to build a resilient aviation ecosystem in Sarawak.

The announcement followed the airline’s inaugural flight launch, which marked a significant milestone in the state’s long-term vision to enhance connectivity.

Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki, Sarawak Secretary and Chairman of AirBorneo, said the airline’s creation reflects the government’s forward-looking approach to strengthening transportation infrastructure for the benefit of communities across the state.

He expressed gratitude to the Sarawak Premier for his commitment to advancing connectivity, describing the airline’s launch as the beginning of a longer journey towards a people-centred aviation sector.

“Every journey must start with one step. Moving forward, we will continue to look at how we do things and how we can improve in order to serve the people better,” he told reporters at Kuching International Airport’s VIP Terminal.

Datuk Amar stressed that AirBorneo will not operate in isolation, but instead pursue a collaborative model by working closely with strategic partners and industry stakeholders.

He noted that building a strong aviation ecosystem requires collective effort, particularly in Sarawak where geographical challenges make connectivity more complex.

While pledging to deliver reliable services, he acknowledged that the airline is still in its early stages and will need time to mature.

He called on the public, communities and media to support and understand the gradual process of development.

“We cannot expect something to be perfect at the first step or the second step. What is important is that we move forward, improve continuously and stay focused on serving the people,” he said.

The chairman reaffirmed AirBorneo’s commitment to maintaining high service standards while balancing operational realities with long-term sustainability.

He explained that the airline’s growth will be guided by a people-first philosophy, ensuring that improvements in connectivity bring tangible benefits to rural and urban communities alike.

The launch ceremony was attended by several senior figures, including Deputy Minister for Transport Datuk Dr Jerip Susil, Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department Datuk Abdullah Saidol, Sarawak Financial Secretary Dato Sri Dr Wan Lizozman Wan Omar, Sarawak Attorney General Dato Sri Saferi Ali, Deputy Sarawak Secretary (Economic Planning and Development) Dato Sri Dr Muhammad Abdullah Zaidel, and Permanent Secretary to the Ministry of Transport Sarawak Datu Wong Hee Sieng, alongside other distinguished guests.

AirBorneo’s collaborative approach signals the state’s ambition to strengthen aviation services, laying the groundwork for future expansion while ensuring that the benefits of improved connectivity reach communities across Sarawak.
