SIBU – The Youth Wing of the Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Bawang Assan Branch marked the start of its 2026 community service initiatives with a visit to the Sibu Benevolent Society on Friday.
The programme, held between 9.30am and 11.30am, saw the participation of 20 members led by Kapitan Chew Hoo Kiong, Head of the SUPP Bawang Assan Branch Youth Wing.
Also in attendance were Youth Wing Secretary Counsellor Yong Ing Hock, Organising Committee Chairman Tang Sieu Hung, and SUPP Bawang Assan Branch Chairman, who also serves as SUPP Central Youth Chairman and Sibu Rural District Council Member, Counsellor Kevin Lau Kor Jie.
During his address, Kevin Lau encouraged the Youth Wing to remain attentive to community needs and to continue implementing welfare and service-oriented programmes. He stressed that the branch would maintain strong ties with the local community through initiatives designed to deliver positive outcomes.
Representatives of the Sibu Benevolent Society expressed gratitude for the visit and the donations provided. They highlighted the importance of continued community support to help sustain the association’s operations and meet essential needs.
As part of the visit, SUPP Youth Wing members were briefed on the society’s daily activities and current challenges. The group also handed over contributions of food supplies and basic necessities, reinforcing their commitment to assisting charitable organisations in Sibu.
The event underscored SUPP Bawang Assan Youth Wing’s dedication to fostering community engagement and welfare support. By beginning the year with outreach to the Sibu Benevolent Society, the branch demonstrated its intention to strengthen partnerships with local organisations and to encourage youth involvement in social responsibility.
Such initiatives reflect the broader role of political youth wings in Sarawak, where community service and welfare programmes are increasingly recognised as vital to building stronger ties between organisations and the public.
