Fire Destroys School Quarters in Asajaya, No Injuries Reported

Asajaya, Sarawak: A quarters house at Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Terasi in Asajaya was completely destroyed after a fire broke out this afternoon, fortunately leaving no one injured.

The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department’s Operations Centre received an emergency call at 6.00 pm. Firefighters from the Asajaya Fire and Rescue Station were immediately dispatched and arrived at the scene at 6.19 pm, after traveling approximately 16 kilometres. The operation was later reinforced with support from the Kota Samarahan Fire and Rescue Station.

Senior Fire Officer II Rosli Muhi, who led the firefighting efforts, reported that the fire involved a semi-permanent quarters house measuring roughly 20 by 40 square feet. Despite the intensity of the blaze, all occupants had safely evacuated, preventing any casualties. The structure was completely destroyed in the fire, leaving only charred remains at the site.

The fire department has confirmed that the cause of the fire is still under investigation. Authorities are also assessing the total extent of the damage caused by the incident. Firefighters worked diligently to extinguish the flames and secure the area, ensuring that the fire did not spread to nearby buildings.

Local residents expressed relief that the incident did not result in injuries. “It is a blessing that no one was hurt. The quarters are gone, but thankfully everyone is safe,” said one community member.

The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department continues to remind the public about fire safety, particularly in school and residential areas. Fire officers have urged occupants to remain vigilant and ensure electrical installations and cooking appliances are properly maintained.

The incident serves as a stark reminder of the risks associated with semi-permanent structures and the importance of emergency preparedness in local communities.
