KUCHING – Minister of Women, Family and Community Development and Santubong Member of Parliament, Hajah Nancy Haji Shukri, began her activities on Friday morning with a visit to a Social Welfare Department (JKM) client in Bandar Baru Semariang.
The visit was made to Mr. Enkachok @ Enghacok Anak Siong, a recipient under the Orang Kurang Upaya (OKU) category for speech impairment, who requires continuous support in his daily life.
The engagement was aimed at ensuring that welfare recipients receive attention and assistance tailored to their needs.
Joining the Minister were Deputy JKM Sarawak Director Mohd Ali Taib, Women’s Head of PBB N4 Pantai Damai Branch Rosmah Zaini, Head of Osen Haji Bujang, and Head of Kampung Mahri.
Their presence reflected the collaborative effort between government agencies, community leaders and local organisations in supporting vulnerable groups.
Hajah Nancy highlighted that visits such as these provide valuable opportunities for her team to listen directly to the needs of welfare recipients.
She emphasised that continuous engagement is essential to strengthening community relations and ensuring that government programmes remain people-centred.
Mr. Enkachok’s case underscores the importance of sustained support for OKU individuals, particularly in enabling them to live with dignity and access necessary resources.
The Minister reiterated her ministry’s commitment to enhancing welfare services and ensuring inclusivity across all communities.
The visit also demonstrated the role of local leadership in complementing federal initiatives, with community representatives working hand-in-hand to address challenges faced by residents.
By fostering cooperation at multiple levels, the welfare agenda in Santubong continues to prioritise compassion, inclusivity and responsiveness.
