Three Men Hurt in Two-Vehicle Crash at Batu 7 Flyover

KUCHING: A road accident involving two vehicles caused concern among motorists during the evening rush hour at the Batu 7 Flyover along Jalan Penrissen on Tuesday. Three adult men were involved in the incident, which took place at one of the busy traffic stretches leading into the city.

According to the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department, its Operations Centre received an emergency call reporting the accident at 5.45pm. Firefighters were immediately dispatched to the location and arrived just four minutes later at 5.49pm, reflecting a quick response to the situation.

Upon arrival, the rescue team found that the accident involved a Honda car and a Perodua Axia. Three adult male victims were identified at the scene. Operations Commander PBK I Mohd Norarbi Jamain said that one of the victims was from the Honda vehicle. Although the man was not trapped inside the car, firefighters assisted in carefully removing him using a stretcher to ensure his safety and prevent further injury.

He added that the other two victims were occupants of the Perodua Axia. These two men had already been removed from the vehicle by members of the public before the fire department arrived. Their quick action helped clear the immediate danger, although authorities generally advise the public to be cautious when assisting accident victims, as improper handling may worsen injuries.

After ensuring that all victims had been safely attended to, the fire and rescue team conducted a thorough safety inspection at the accident scene. This inspection was carried out to confirm that there were no additional hazards such as fuel leaks, fire risks, or traffic dangers that could pose a threat to other road users or emergency personnel.

Once the situation was deemed safe, the operation was officially terminated. The matter, including the cause of the accident and the condition of the victims, was handed over to the relevant authorities for further investigation and necessary action. No immediate details were released regarding the severity of the injuries or whether the victims were sent to hospital.

The incident briefly disrupted traffic flow at the Batu 7 Flyover, reminding motorists of the importance of driving carefully, especially during peak hours. Authorities continue to urge road users to remain alert, obey traffic rules, and maintain patience on busy roads to reduce the risk of accidents.
