In a significant crackdown, police have arrested eight individuals suspected of perpetrating 45 cases of snatch theft, robbery, and motorcycle theft across Kuala Lumpur, Negeri Sembilan, Selangor, and Melaka.

The suspects, consisting of five men and three women in their 30s, are believed to be responsible for 40 snatch thefts and five motorcycle thefts spanning multiple states. The arrests were made following thorough investigations, with police seizing 10 motorcycles and various stolen items including helmets, motorcycle rims, and clothing.

According to Kuala Lumpur CID chief Datuk Habibi Majinji, two men and a woman were apprehended on March 28 at a hotel in Teluk Kemang, Port Dickson, Negeri Sembilan, while the remaining suspects were nabbed in and around Kuala Lumpur on Monday. The gang’s illicit activities reportedly targeted tourist spots, with some instances involving injuries to victims or the use of weapons during robberies.

Habibi revealed that the suspects operated as a cohesive group, all acquaintances and currently unemployed. Notably, two of the women were romantically involved with the men in the gang. Their criminal activities primarily occurred during daylight hours, particularly on weekends. All five male suspects have prior criminal records, with some recently released from prison.

The apprehended individuals are slated for remand until further investigations unfold. The swift action by law enforcement underscores efforts to curb crime and ensure the safety of residents and visitors alike.
