KUCHING – The Premier of Sarawak, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Haji Abdul Rahman Zohari bin Tun Datuk Abang Haji Openg, has received a formal invitation to officiate the upcoming Asia Pacific Aerospace Conference & Exhibition (APACE) 2026.
The courtesy call was made by the Ministry of Education, Innovation and Talent Development Sarawak (MEITD) at the Premier’s office earlier this week.
The event, jointly organised by MEITD and i-CATS University College with support from Business Events Sarawak and Borneo Business Connect, is scheduled to take place at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) from 26 to 29 January 2026.
APACE 2026 is expected to be a landmark gathering for the aerospace and aviation sectors in the Asia Pacific region.
The conference aims to provide a platform for industry leaders, government agencies, and academic institutions to exchange knowledge, explore collaborations, and strengthen regional engagement.
Minister for Education, Innovation and Talent Development, Dato Sri Roland Sagah Wee Inn, highlighted that nearly all ministries in Sarawak would be involved, particularly those linked to aerospace and aviation growth.
He stressed that the initiative aligns with Sarawak’s long-term vision to build a skilled workforce capable of supporting the state’s expanding aviation industry.
“Our focus is to develop local talent in the aerospace and aviation industries. As everyone is aware, Sarawak now has its own airline, AirBorneo. Therefore, it is important for our people to be equipped with the relevant skills and expertise to support and sustain this industry,” he said.
The launch of AirBorneo earlier this month marked a significant milestone for Sarawak. The airline, formed after the state’s acquisition of MASwings, began operations on 2 January 2026, connecting Kuching with destinations such as Mukah and Tanjung Manis.
It is Malaysia’s first state-owned airline, designed to enhance connectivity across Borneo and strengthen Sarawak’s role as a regional aviation hub.
Beyond the airline, Sarawak is also exploring the establishment of an Aerospace Industrial Park to attract investment and foster collaboration in high-value aerospace manufacturing and research.
The initiative is intended to position the state as a hub for component production, aircraft maintenance, and sustainable aviation fuel development.
APACE 2026 is therefore seen not only as a conference, but also as a strategic step in Sarawak’s broader ambition to become a key player in the Asia Pacific aerospace industry.
The event is expected to draw international attention and reinforce the state’s commitment to innovation, talent development, and regional leadership in aviation.
