Sultan Ibrahim Urges Civil Servants to Uphold Integrity and Efficiency

His Majesty the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Ibrahim granted an audience to Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar at Istana Bukit Tunku, Kuala Lumpur, on 8 January 2026.

The meeting focused on current issues within the civil service and strategies to strengthen governance and administrative practices.

Tan Sri Shamsul Azri briefed His Majesty on challenges facing the public service, including the need to enhance efficiency and accountability.

In response, Sultan Ibrahim stressed that civil servants must remain committed to integrity and trust in fulfilling their responsibilities, as their role is central to ensuring government policies and plans are effectively implemented.

The King highlighted that civil servants are the mainstay of Malaysia’s administration, playing a vital role in delivering services to the people. He underscored the importance of cultivating a work culture rooted in honesty, transparency, and efficiency.

His Majesty also issued a stern reminder that corruption, abuse of power, and malpractice must be rejected, as such misconduct undermines public confidence in government institutions.

“Civil servants must always maintain integrity and trust in carrying out their responsibilities in the interests of the people and the country,” Sultan Ibrahim said, adding that accountability and efficiency are essential pillars of governance.

The audience reflects His Majesty’s ongoing commitment to strengthening Malaysia’s administrative framework and ensuring that public institutions remain credible and effective.

The King’s remarks come at a time when governance reforms and anti-corruption measures are increasingly prioritised to safeguard national development.

This meeting between Sultan Ibrahim and Tan Sri Shamsul Azri is expected to reinforce the civil service’s role in upholding good governance and delivering on the government’s agenda for the people.
