SELANGAU – The Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM) in Selangau District has confirmed that flood monitoring along the banks of Ulu Sungai Arip shows stable conditions, with water levels continuing to decline.
Monitoring was conducted on Monday, 12 January 2026, at 12.30 pm, following rainfall in the district. Inspections at the Ulu Sungai Arip Bridge revealed that water levels are trending downward, easing concerns of potential flooding in nearby communities.
Officials reported that no roads or low-lying residential areas have been inundated. All longhouses situated along the riverbanks remain unaffected, and residents are safe. The overall situation is under control, with no evacuations required.
Flooding has been a recurring challenge in Selangau during the monsoon season, with several rivers and low-lying areas prone to rising waters. Earlier this month, temporary evacuation centres were activated in other parts of the district, including SK Bukit Arip, to shelter families displaced by floods.
The Civil Defence Force emphasised that continuous monitoring is vital to ensure community safety. Teams remain on duty to provide updates and respond to emergencies should conditions change.
Residents have been advised to remain vigilant and to comply with instructions issued by the authorities. The Civil Defence Force has reminded the public that assistance is available through its 24-hour emergency hotline at 084-891285.
Local officials highlighted that while the current situation at Ulu Sungai Arip is stable, preparedness remains essential. With unpredictable weather patterns during the monsoon season, disaster management teams are ready to act swiftly if water levels rise again.
The Civil Defence Force reaffirmed its guiding principle of “Ready, Fast, With Integrity” in safeguarding communities across Selangau.
