MUKAH: The Mukah Youth Activity Centre is now officially open following an extensive renovation under the 2025 Rural Transformation Project (RTP) implemented by the Public Works Department (JKR) of the Mukah Division.
The area has been a hotspot for youth into healthy activities and the newly upgraded community centre is expected to increase chances for Mukah youngsters. Upon completion, the revamped building will be used as a new community activity centre concept, replicating that of the now defunct Mukah Youth Activity Centre which occupied the former Dalat and Mukah District Council (MDDM) complex.
“It is all about youth development,” Tellian State Assemblyman Royston Valentine said of the need for such a centre. He said programs at the building would be diverse, including those focused on digitisation, entrepreneurship, modern agriculture, sports and playing sessions.
“It will also have different activities that are linked with the digitisation of society, it has got already programs for entrepreneurial empowerment, modern agricultural program, sports and recreation activities,” he said.
The centre, Royston said, will also be used as an operations center for local clubs and organizations to have a place to better organize their events in a orderly fashion. This, he said, will help strengthen the relationship of community networks and enable young projects to be better organised.
Royston later officiated at the handover ceremony by presenting the refurbished centre to Mukah Youth Activity Centre Chairman Tarmizi Karnain Abdah. The ceremony was one of in a series of events to lead the government’s constructionneering programs amongst young people.
Royston reiterated Sarawak Government’s seriousness in developing ground-up initiatives, emphasising that investments into youth centres are key to human capital development and economic sustainability of societies. He said programmes and particularly foundation such as FYS have been in the state’s policy radar be case of its plan to adequately prepare young minds for success in an ever-changing ambience.
Among those present at the ceremony were DUN Community Service Centre Officer Tellian Jay Keram, Mukah District Office representative Nolin Gendang and JKR technical staff, Seventhwave Energy contractors as well contingency of headmen led by N57 Tellian Branch Youth Deputy Head Edwin Jokelin.
Once constructed, the Mukah Youth Activity Centre is envisaged to be a hub for creativity, cooperation and interaction where young people can create new possibilities and network in society.
