Flood Victims Return Home as Kampung Seruyuk PPS Officially Closed

KOTA SAMARAHAN – The Temporary Transfer Centre (PPS) at the Old Mosque in Kampung Seruyuk, Sebuyau, which sheltered 37 flood victims from nine families, was officially closed at 10am today after conditions in the area improved.

The closure notice was issued by Acting Sebuyau District Officer Louis Andria Barieng, with officers from the Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM) and the Social Welfare Department present to oversee final coordination and monitoring.

Throughout its operation, the PPS provided shelter, safety and basic necessities to the displaced families. The closure was carried out smoothly and in an orderly manner, thanks to close cooperation between security agencies, welfare officers and the District Disaster Management Committee.

All registration is relevant for the departing victims were completed before the centre was fully closed. Authorities also reminded residents to remain vigilant and to comply with instructions should there be sudden changes in weather conditions.

The PPS had been opened on Monday to accommodate flood victims from Kampung Seruyuk after heavy rainfall caused water levels in the area to rise.

According to the Malaysian Meteorological Department (METMalaysia), continuous rain and thunderstorms are expected in several interior parts of Sarawak until 2 February, raising concerns over potential new flood risks.

Local authorities have urged residents, particularly those in low-lying and flood-prone areas, to stay alert and prepared. The successful closure of the PPS reflects effective coordination among agencies, ensuring that affected families were well supported until the situation stabilised.

The incident underscores the importance of disaster preparedness and community resilience in Sarawak, where seasonal rains frequently pose challenges to rural and semi-urban communities.
