Small Fire at Desa Ilmu Home Put Out Quickly, No Injuries Reported

KOTA SAMARAHAN: A small fire that broke out at a two-storey house in Desa Ilmu this morning was successfully brought under control by the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department, with no injuries or loss of life reported.

The incident occurred at a permanent structure house located at Lorong 7, Desa Ilmu. According to an official statement from the Fire and Rescue Department of Malaysia (JBPM) Sarawak, an emergency call was received at 10.55 am. Firefighters from the Kota Samarahan Fire and Rescue Station were immediately dispatched to the scene, which is about 10 kilometres from the station.

The fire engine arrived at the location at 11.06 am. Upon arrival, firefighters discovered that the fire was confined to a room on the upper floor of the house. Operations Commander PKPgB Muhammad Mirza Dzalmira Miraj said the affected area was estimated to be about 10 by 12 square feet.

He explained that the fire involved a mattress in one of the occupants’ rooms, with the fire damage estimated at around 10 per cent. Firefighters acted quickly to prevent the fire from spreading to other parts of the house, especially given that it was a double-storey structure.

The fire extinguishing operation was carried out using a single-jet stream with a single nozzle. The fire was successfully brought under control at 11.20 am. Firefighters then conducted further checks and monitoring to ensure there were no remaining sources of fire that could reignite.

The entire operation was officially concluded at 12.12 pm after thorough inspection confirmed that the situation was fully safe. A total of 15 personnel from the Kota Samarahan Fire and Rescue Station were involved, with additional support from the Tabuan Jaya Fire and Rescue Station. Two Fire Rescue Tender vehicles and an Emergency Medical Rescue Services unit were deployed during the operation.

PKPgB Muhammad Mirza also confirmed that the incident did not result in any injuries or fatalities. All occupants were safe, and no medical treatment was required at the scene. At this stage, the cause of the fire is still under investigation, and authorities will conduct further assessments to determine how the incident started.

The swift response by the fire brigade helped minimise damage and prevented a potentially more serious situation. The public is reminded to always remain alert to fire safety, especially in residential areas, and to ensure electrical appliances and household items are used responsibly.
