KUCHING – PUSAKA Logistics and Services Sdn Bhd, Top Sommet Global Sdn Bhd and the Beibu Gulf Port Group have agreed that Tanjung Manis Port has strong potential to act as a catalyst for the development of the Tanjung Manis Economic Growth Area (T-MEGA), following a recent strategic meeting.
The meeting, chaired by Dato Sri Mohd Naroden Majais, Advisor (SME) to the Sarawak Ministry of International Trade, Industry and Investment (MINTRED), highlighted the port’s importance in driving economic activity in central Sarawak. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed to kick-start a joint study on the port’s potential as a trade and logistics gateway.
Discussions focused on positioning Tanjung Manis Port as a strategic shipping hub by leveraging regional logistics networks and partnerships. The study will explore opportunities in trade expansion, agro-agriculture, halal food processing and related services, in line with Sarawak’s broader economic development agenda.
Naroden noted the port’s improving connectivity, pointing out that several bridges have recently been completed to link major cities to Tanjung Manis. This improved access is expected to boost logistics efficiency and attract fresh investments.
Enhancing port infrastructure is anticipated to bring significant socio-economic benefits, including job creation, growth of local businesses and stronger supply chains. Particular emphasis was placed on the halal sector and the maritime economy, which are viewed as key drivers of sustainable regional growth.
With its strategic location along major regional shipping routes, Tanjung Manis Port offers direct access to global markets. Officials believe that with the right infrastructure and strategic partnerships, the port could become a cornerstone of Sarawak’s coastal development strategy.
The initiative reflects the Sarawak Government’s commitment to maximising existing infrastructure while promoting inclusive and sustainable development in coastal areas. By aligning port development with state economic priorities, authorities aim to ensure that T-MEGA evolves into a hub for innovation, trade and community prosperity.
Collaboration with the Beibu Gulf Port Group and other partners is expected to bring in international expertise and strengthen Sarawak’s competitiveness in maritime trade. Observers say the move could transform Tanjung Manis into a dynamic economic zone, reinforcing Sarawak’s position in the regional supply chain.
