Sarawak Premier Arrives in Jakarta for Economic Summit 2026

JAKARTA – The Premier of Sarawak, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Haji Abdul Rahman Zohari bin Tun Datuk Abang Haji Openg, landed here on 2 February 2026, at 11:24 am local time to start his official working visit to Indonesia.

At the airport, he was greeted by Mr. Farzamie Sarkawi, Deputy Chief of Mission at the Embassy of Malaysia in Jakarta. The Premier’s visit also officially kicks off the beginning of his attendance to the Indonesia Economic Summit 2026, which will bring together world leaders, senior policymakers, leading economists and private sector heads.

The summit will be held on 3-4 February and the theme will be “Enabling the Momentum of Regional and Global Economic Growth”. Abang Johari will also give a keynote address, with the title “Ideas from Borneo: investing in the next engine of growth”, in which Sarawak’s views on sustainable development, investment potential and regional partnerships will be put forth.

The participation of the Premier is a continuation of Sarawak’s commitment to enhancing international relation and sharing its development model with neighbouring countries. The Premier has frequently stressed sustainability, innovation and strategic investment as the catalyst of Sarawak’s economic future.

The working visit is also an illustration that Sarawak has aspirations to be a regional powerhouse in Southeast Asia. By showcasing Borneo as a powerhouse of development, the Premier hopes to attract more regional and global partners to work and invest in the state.

Joining him on this working trip are Datuk Amar Haji Mohamad Abu Bakar bin Marzuki, State Secretary Sarawak and Dato Sri Dr. Muhammad Abdullah Zaidel, Deputy Sarawak Secretary (Economic Planning and Development). Their presence serves to highlight the significance of the visit, as well making sure that Sarawak’s economic narratives will be properly conveyed on a summit level.

The Indonesia Economic Summit 2026 is forecasted to attract global particpation in the key areas of sustainable energy, infrastructure and trade & investment. For Sarawak, the event is a demonstration of its development policies and a confirmation of its strong position in spearheading regional economic cooperation.

Through constructive dialogue with the leaders in Jakarta, we want to foster closer relationship from which partners may learn from and align themselves with Indonesia as well as other countries within ASEAN for our collective growth and prosperity.
