MIRI: The Miri District Police Headquarters has stepped up enforcement efforts to maintain public peace following complaints about noisy and modified vehicles disturbing residents at Taman Bulatan Miri.
On January 31, 2026, the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division carried out a Compliance Operation at the Taman Bulatan Miri parking area. The operation was launched after members of the public raised concerns over excessive noise and disruptive behaviour involving 4WD vehicles and private cars, especially during late hours.
During the operation, police officers inspected a total of 25 individuals, comprising 20 men and five women. Enforcement teams also checked 22 vehicles, including 10 motor cars, 10 four-wheel-drive vehicles and two motorcycles. The inspection focused on driver documentation, vehicle condition and compliance with road regulations.
As a result of the operation, police issued 20 summonses under PDRM (K) 257 for various traffic and vehicle-related offences. Among the offences detected were driving without a valid licence, illegal modification of vehicle structures, modified exhaust systems, absence of side mirrors, failure to display proper registration numbers and the use of fancy or non-compliant registration plates. Several other offences related to unauthorised vehicle modifications were also recorded.
According to police sources, the operation was aimed not only at enforcement but also at educating road users on the importance of obeying traffic laws and respecting public spaces. Complaints had highlighted that the noise created by certain vehicles in the parking area was severe enough to disrupt public order and cause discomfort to nearby residents.
The police reminded motorists and riders that vehicle modifications which alter the original structure or increase noise levels are against the law and can pose safety risks. Such actions may also lead to accidents, endanger other road users and create tension within the community.
Authorities also advised road users to drive and ride prudently at all times, remain alert on the road and avoid involvement in street gang activities. The public was urged to cooperate with enforcement agencies and to continue reporting irresponsible behaviour that threatens safety and peace.
The Miri Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division stressed that similar operations will be conducted from time to time to ensure compliance with traffic laws. The police reaffirmed their commitment to safeguarding public order and maintaining a safe and peaceful environment for all residents in Miri.
