JPJ and JSPT Miri Crack Down on Illegal Racing in Citywide Operation

MIRI – The authorities here are taking tougher action to crush dangerous road activities by launching a special joint enforcement operation to combat illegal motorcycle racing and other traffic violations.

According to the Road Transport Department (JPJ) Miri Branch, with joint co-ordination from the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (JSPT) Miri, the integrated operation was conducted in several areas throughout the city on 7 February 2026.

It had been an operation aimed at detecting riders and pillions taking part in dangerous behaviour that endangers themselves as well as other road users.

Officers searched vehicles and checked riders throughout the operation. As a result, 78 notices of non-compliance were served across multiple offences, including unsafe alterations, no current cert or modification orders and traffic infringement. Also impounded for further probe were 15 motorcycles believed to have taken part in illegal racing.

Officials stressed that such enforcement actions are needed to ensure public safety. Reckless driving has always been an issue in inner cities and is the cause of many accidents and fatalities.

Enforcement authorities’ intention is to dissuade unsafe behaviour by focusing on those who do wrong and underlining the need for traffic compliance.

JPJ Sarawak commended JSPT Miri for their excellent cooperation and dedication to making the operation a success. “The coordinated efforts of law enforcement continue to be effective at keeping our highways safe and the public secure,” officials said.

The public has been advised to follow traffic laws and avoid carrying out any activities that might cost lives. Officials reiterated that road safety is a collective responsibility, and irresponsible actions compromise the safety of other road users.

This latest sweep is part of a national plan to combat road crashes and fatalities. Recent reports from Malaysia’s transport authorities suggest that enforcement activities have been increased in a number of states to solve speed-related, illegal racing and DUI problems.

These are part of the government’s continued efforts to instil road discipline and improve the safety situation across the country.

In Miri, the raid serves as a warning that the police are constantly monitoring illegal racing and other dangerous activities. Authorities also re-pledged to keep watch over and take a hard line against aggressive violators so every driver in the city can have safe roads.
