APM Sarikei Strengthens Ties with Sarikei Forest Office

SARIKEI – LT (PA) Shahrol Azizi Bin Zaidi, APM Sarikei officer, paying an official courtesy call on the Sarikei Forest office on Monday, 9 February 2026. The meeting that commenced at 0900 hours was an effort to strengthen institutional collaboration between the Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM) and the Forest Department.

During the session, Lt Shahrol Azizi had an appointment/met Pn Ali Bin Lee, Forest Conservation Officer for RMK 9 corporation, to follow up on the application form for a dedicated office for APM Meradong District.

The conversation was characterised as warm and positive, with both parties highlighting the importance of cooperation between federal agencies to ensure operational readiness and provide services to communities.

Sarawak’s Civil Defence Force is an essential agency for disaster preparation, emergency rescue and public safety throughout the state. With a home in Meradong District, APM would have better facilities for organising its work as well as the ability to react quickly and effectively when assistance is needed.

APM has been strengthening its foothold in the rural and semi-urban regions to make the communities safer in times of need, government records show.

The Forest Department, on the other hand, has been involved in conservation and sustainable land management in Sarikei since a long time ago. Through collaboration with APM, the department can ensure that environmental protection measures support community safety efforts.

It is part of the current paradigm shift in Sarawak, where government agencies are working together to be more efficient and build a stronger impact on the lives of the community.

Officials said the meeting would be as much about logistics as it was a chance to cement deeper institutional ties.

The conversation demonstrated that shared resources and planning could mean less effort duplication and better service providers. Both sides agreed that cooperation across agencies is central to working on everything from disaster management to environmental protection.

The drop-in also served to exemplify APM’s wider effort in community engagement. It has always upheld principles of integrity, pace and readiness. The mantra “Ready, Fast, and With Integrity” was drummed during the session, as were the guiding principles of “Serving the Nation” and “Always with Civil Defence”.

“The APM (visit) is seen as an ongoing move by the organisation to network with government agencies in Sarawak. These are in line with the national vision of Malaysia Madani, which highlights inclusiveness, resilience and collaboration in the public service.

The meeting ended on a high note and with both sides hopeful of working together in the future. It is understood that the proposal for an APM office in Meradong District is to be approved in due course after a few more administrative procedures.

This reflects the increasingly cross-cutting nature of cooperation in Sarawak, where environmental and civil defence concerns are both being addressed simultaneously for the welfare of people on the ground.
