Man Dies as 4WD Crushed by Cement Lorry

SIBU, 10 February 2026 — A tragic road accident claimed the life of a 60-year-old man when the four-wheel drive (4WD) vehicle he was driving was struck by a cement lorry on Jalan Deshon, just before the Rosli Dobi junction, this afternoon. Condolences have been extended to the family of the deceased.

According to the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM), the Sungai Merah Fire and Rescue Station received an emergency call at 12.18 pm and immediately dispatched a team to the scene, located approximately six kilometres away.

Operations Commander PBK I Yaakub bin Adanan said that upon arrival at 12.25 pm, the team found the 4WD severely crushed, with the driver trapped inside. “The Operation Release Team immediately used airbag equipment to create space for the victim, but the vehicle’s condition made initial rescue attempts unsuccessful,” he explained.

The rescue operation involved the assistance of a crane from a private party, but when the first attempt failed, a second crane was brought in to move the cement lorry. Despite the challenges, the rescue team eventually managed to remove the victim from the vehicle. Officers from the Ministry of Health Malaysia confirmed the man’s death at the scene. The body was subsequently handed over to the police for further investigation.

The operation concluded at 2.03 pm, after firefighters cleared the road and removed the damaged vehicles. A total of eight firefighters, supported by one Fire Rescue Truck (FRT) and one Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) engine, were involved. Police officers and MOH personnel were also present at the scene to assist.

This incident serves as a grim reminder of the dangers of road accidents involving heavy vehicles. Authorities continue to urge drivers to exercise caution, especially on busy roads and junctions.
