KUCHING – The Road Safety Unit of JPJ Sarawak recently carried out a Road Safety Advocacy Programme to raise awareness and promote safer behaviour among road users.
Held on 10 February 2026, the programme stressed the role of personal responsibility in reducing road accidents. Through education and direct engagement, the initiative aimed to encourage safer choices behind the wheel and greater awareness of shared road use.
Officers from the Road Safety Unit, including Puan Susianti binti Shafiee and Puan Muhai binti Mohamed, worked alongside the JPJ Sarawak Operations Unit to deliver the programme. Their involvement reflected JPJ’s ongoing effort to bring road safety messages directly to the public across the state.
Key topics included compliance with traffic laws, defensive driving practices, and pedestrian awareness. JPJ Sarawak highlighted that road safety depends on cooperation between enforcement agencies and the public, not enforcement alone.
According to officials, advocacy programmes like this play an important role in lowering accident rates, especially in urban areas with heavier traffic. Direct community engagement helps reinforce safe habits as part of daily routines.
JPJ Sarawak reaffirmed plans to continue similar programmes throughout Sarawak to keep road users mindful of vigilance and responsibility. The department views sustained awareness efforts as a practical way to improve travel safety and overall quality of life.
