Groundbreaking Ceremony Held for Selangau Mini Sports Complex

SIBU – The Sarawak Public Works Department (JKR) marked a key milestone on 11 February 2026 with the groundbreaking ceremony for the Selangau Mini Sports Complex, signalling the official start of the remaining construction works.

The event was attended by Ir. Wisil anak Lichok, Deputy Director (Infrastructure) of JKR Sarawak, and Josenthiana anak Manggie, Deputy Director (Human Resources & Corporate Affairs), highlighting the department’s leadership support for projects benefiting rural communities.

The Selangau Mini Sports Complex is set to provide modern, comfortable, and accessible sports facilities for local residents. The project supports Sarawak’s broader efforts to strengthen community infrastructure, improve social well-being, and enhance the quality of life in rural areas.

Officials said the complex will serve as a hub for recreational activities, sports talent development, and community engagement. It is expected to encourage healthier lifestyles and greater participation in sports among residents.

JKR Sarawak reaffirmed its commitment to closely monitor the project to ensure it is completed on schedule and according to specifications, maintaining accountability and quality standards throughout construction.

The initiative reflects the state government’s vision for balanced development, ensuring rural communities have access to facilities comparable to those in urban centres. By investing in sports infrastructure, Sarawak aims to nurture young talent, promote inclusivity, and create opportunities for community growth.

Residents of Selangau have welcomed the project, noting that the complex will provide much-needed facilities for youth and families. It is expected to become a focal point for local events, training programmes, and recreational activities, boosting the area’s social and economic vibrancy.

The ceremony concluded with JKR Sarawak’s motto, “We Build For You”, underscoring its dedication to delivering infrastructure that meets the needs of the people.
