Juanda Jaya, Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department (Integrity and Ombudsman), called on community and tribal leaders (KMKK) to strengthen governance practices, manage integrity risks carefully and set a strong example for their communities.

“Leadership with integrity will create a community that is united, resilient and able to move in line with Sarawak’s aspirations for sustainable and inclusive development,” he said.

He delivered the remarks while officiating the Community Leadership Integrity Module (MIKM) Level 3 (Pioneer) Series 1 Number 1/2026 Mukah Division Course at the Kingwood Hotel on Thursday. Also present were Royston Valentine, assemblyman for Tellian, and Abdul Yakub Arbi, assemblyman for Balingian.

Juanda, who also serves as Jemoreng assemblyman, said ethical leadership plays a central role in meeting the goals set under the Post-COVID-19 Development Strategy 2030 (PCDS 2030), which aims to position Sarawak as a developed region by 2030.

The MIKM programme has expanded steadily across the state. From 2023 to 2025, 18 Level 1 series and eight Level 2 series were held in 15 districts, drawing close to 1,300 participants. The training equips grassroots leaders with practical skills to uphold integrity, strengthen governance and build resilient communities.

The Mukah session marked the launch of the Level 3 series, which centres on advanced leadership competencies and deepens the state’s agenda of embedding integrity into public administration.

By strengthening ethical standards at the community level, the government aims to build trust between leaders and residents. Strong governance structures, backed by accountable leadership, form the backbone of Sarawak’s plan for sustainable growth and social cohesion.
