KUCHING, 14 February 2026 – The Sarawak Road Transport Department (JPJ) has intensified patrols and monitoring in areas considered traffic “hotspots” throughout the state, aiming to enhance compliance with road laws and safeguard all road users.
The move comes as part of JPJ Sarawak’s ongoing effort to curb traffic offences and reduce accident risks on busy routes. Officers are focusing on high-traffic zones, main intercity roads, industrial areas, and locations frequently flagged by public complaints. The patrols also ensure adherence to the Road Transport Act 1987 and the Commercial Vehicle Licensing Board Act 1987.
According to JPJ Sarawak officials, these operations are conducted regularly to maintain a visible enforcement presence, especially in high-risk areas. By adopting an integrated and continuous approach, the department hopes to instill responsible driving habits and reinforce public confidence in road safety measures.
“Road safety is a shared responsibility. We urge drivers to obey traffic laws, ensure their vehicles are properly maintained, and plan journeys carefully. Compliance and caution on the roads are crucial to prevent accidents and protect lives,” said a JPJ representative.
JPJ Sarawak has stressed that the department’s efforts are not solely about enforcement but also about educating the public on safe driving practices. The department remains committed to maintaining these patrols, aiming to make Sarawak’s roads safer for motorists, cyclists, and pedestrians alike.
As the state continues to grow and traffic volumes increase, proactive measures like these patrols are key to reducing accidents and ensuring safer travel for everyone. Members of the public are encouraged to cooperate with authorities and play their part in fostering a safer road environment. — JPJ Negeri Sarawak
