Sarawak Pushes Inclusive Growth Under PCDS 2030

KUCHING: The Sarawak Government remains firm in its commitment to develop the state in a fair, inclusive and compassionate manner, ensuring that progress is shared by all Sarawakians, including the Chinese community. This approach is guided by the Post-COVID-19 Development Strategy 2030, which places people’s welfare, education and unity at the centre of development.

The President of Sarawak, Tun Pehin Sri Dr. Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, said the state government has continued to provide strong support in education, social welfare and community development so that no group is left behind. He stressed that inclusive policies are essential for long-term stability and growth in a multi-racial and multi-religious society like Sarawak.

According to him, by 2024 the Sarawak Government, under the leadership of Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Dr. Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari, had allocated about RM22 million to Chinese schools across the state. This included RM12 million for Chinese Aided Primary Schools and RM10 million for Chinese Aided Secondary Schools. He noted that the allocation for primary schools increased from RM9 million to RM12 million compared to the previous year, reflecting the government’s seriousness in strengthening education.

Wan Junaidi explained that these funds are aimed at improving learning facilities, enhancing students’ skills and building strong human capital. He added that education remains a key pillar in Sarawak’s plan to achieve developed state status by 2030.

In his special message for the Chinese New Year 2026 celebration, he also highlighted the continued recognition of the Unified Examination Certificate. This recognition allows Chinese students to further their studies at Sarawakian universities, including in strategic and future-oriented fields such as satellite and aerospace technology. He added that free education at Sarawak universities and higher education institutions this year further supports equal access to knowledge.

On welfare matters, Wan Junaidi said the state government has consistently organised the Chinese New Year Sejambak Kasih Programme to help ease the financial burden of low-income families. Monthly financial aid through the Community Welfare Office and continued funding from UNIFOR for the maintenance and construction of Chinese temples and shrines across Sarawak were also maintained.

He acknowledged that the Chinese community has long played a major role in Sarawak’s development, especially in the economy. The community has been a backbone in sectors such as trade, commercial agriculture, small and medium enterprises and investment, while also contributing actively to politics, education and social development.

In closing, Wan Junaidi urged all Sarawakians to continue supporting government initiatives and to strengthen unity and cooperation. He said shared effort and mutual respect are key to ensuring Sarawak’s progress benefits both present and future generations.
