31 Arrested in Daro Motorcycle Operation Ahead of CNY 2026

DARO: Authorities arrested 31 individuals during a motorcycle operation conducted by the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division of the Matu Daro District Police Headquarters (IPD) yesterday, ahead of the Chinese New Year 2026 celebrations.

The operation, carried out along the Matu-Daro road, targeted motorcyclists whose activities had raised complaints from local residents for disrupting traffic and public peace. The crackdown is part of Ops Selamat Tahun Baharu Cina 2026, aimed at ensuring the safety of road users during the festive period.

Daro District Police Chief, Deputy Superintendent Rahim Mihos, said the operation involved 29 men and two women, ranging from teenagers to adults, along with 29 motorcycles. All suspects were arrested on suspicion of speeding on public roads, posing risks to themselves and others.

“Further inspection revealed several offences, including riding without a valid driving license, modifications to the motorcycle frame and exhaust system, missing side mirrors, absence of registration numbers, and the use of fancy or unauthorized registration plates,” Rahim explained.

A total of 40 summonses were issued for various traffic offences detected during the operation. Rahim stressed that the police would continue such operations periodically, particularly during festive seasons, to maintain road safety and public order.

He urged road users to always follow traffic regulations, ride responsibly, and avoid involvement in street gang activities or illegal vehicle modifications. “Strict action will be taken against anyone found violating the law and disturbing public order,” he added.

The operation highlights the authorities’ commitment to ensuring safe roads during high-traffic periods, reinforcing the importance of responsible riding and adherence to the law. Residents in Daro can expect continued enforcement as part of the ongoing efforts to curb dangerous riding behaviours.
