SIBU: A well-known social media influencer died in a road accident involving a four-wheel drive vehicle along Jalan Teng Kung Suk 2 here in the early hours of Monday morning, sending shockwaves through the local online community in Sibu.
The fatal accident occurred at about 2.00am when the victim, identified as Chen Ding Ding, 41, was driving alone along the road. ACP Zulkipli Suhaili confirmed that police received an emergency call shortly after the incident and immediately dispatched a team of officers to the scene.
According to preliminary investigations, the Ford Ranger driven by the victim is believed to have lost control before skidding and crashing into the rear of a container trailer that was parked at the end of the road. Police said there was no indication of other vehicles being involved at the time of the crash.
“When officers arrived at the scene, the victim was found unconscious in the driver’s seat,” Zulkipli said when contacted. The impact of the collision was severe, causing extensive damage to the front section of the vehicle and leaving the victim trapped inside.
Personnel from the Sibu Sentral Fire and Rescue Station were called in to assist with rescue operations. Firefighters carried out careful extrication work to remove the victim from the wreckage. Medical personnel from Sibu Hospital later confirmed that the victim had died at the scene.
The victim’s body was subsequently handed over to the police before being taken to the hospital for a post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death. Police have classified the case under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which relates to causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.
Chen was known among local netizens for his active presence on social media, where he frequently shared lifestyle content and personal experiences. News of his sudden passing quickly spread online, with many expressing sadness and offering condolences to his family and loved ones.
The incident has once again raised concerns about road safety, especially during late-night and early-morning hours when visibility and driver alertness can be reduced. Police have urged motorists to remain cautious at all times, obey traffic regulations, and ensure they are physically fit before getting behind the wheel.
