SPAOH – The Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM) Spaoh Division successfully destroyed a wasp nest at a residence in Bukit Embawang, Spaoh, on 19 January.
The incident was reported by Puan Jane, who noticed several wasps flying around her garden house. Concerned for her safety, she contacted APM Spaoh to request assistance.
Four members of the Charlie Squad, led by Sjn (PA) Noriza Binti Japar, were dispatched to the location equipped with insect nest destruction tools (MSS). Upon inspection, the team discovered a wasp nest attached to the ceiling outside the complainant’s garden house.
The nest, roughly the size of a takraw ball, was destroyed using Ridsect spray. Members wore protective gear, including bee shirts, to ensure the operation was carried out safely.
Authorities confirmed that the procedure was completed without incident. The team returned to PKOD with equipment and logistics in good condition.
APM Spaoh reminded residents to remain cautious when encountering poisonous insects such as wasps, which can pose serious risks if disturbed. Officials advised the public to contact emergency services immediately rather than attempting to handle such situations themselves.
Cases of wasp infestations are not uncommon in rural areas, particularly during dry seasons when insects seek shelter in homes and gardens. Experts note that wasps can be aggressive when threatened, making professional intervention essential.
Community members have welcomed the swift response, praising APM Spaoh for their efficiency and dedication to public safety. The incident highlights the importance of vigilance and cooperation between residents and emergency services in maintaining safe living environments.
