JPJ Sibu Officers Aid Drivers During Sibu Festive Patrols

SIBU – Officers from the Sarawak Road Transport Department (JPJ) in Sibu provided assistance to a stranded motorist during festive patrols under the Chinese New Year Ops TBC 2026 campaign.

The incident took place along Jalan Sibu-Kanowit, where a vehicle experienced mechanical failure. JPJ personnel on duty acted swiftly, moving the car to a safer location to prevent accidents and to ensure traffic continued to flow smoothly along the busy route.

The Chinese New Year enforcement operation, which is carried out annually, involves heightened patrols and monitoring across Sarawak. The initiative aims to reduce road accidents, enforce traffic laws, and provide immediate support to motorists during one of the busiest travel seasons of the year.

JPJ Sarawak highlighted that its officers are not only tasked with enforcement but also with community service. By assisting stranded drivers, the department seeks to demonstrate its commitment to public safety and welfare.

A spokesperson explained, “This proactive action reflects the commitment of JPJ Sarawak in not only implementing traffic law enforcement but also always being attentive and ready to lend assistance to the community.”

The department has consistently reminded drivers to check their vehicles before embarking on long journeys, especially during festive periods when traffic congestion is common. Breakdowns can lead to dangerous situations, particularly on highways and major roads.

In recent years, JPJ Sarawak has expanded its role beyond issuing summonses and conducting roadblocks. Officers have increasingly taken on responsibilities such as traffic control, accident response, and public education campaigns. These efforts are designed to build trust with the community and to reinforce the importance of safe driving practices.

Local authorities have also urged motorists to remain vigilant, adhere to speed limits, and avoid reckless behaviour. With festive travel continuing across Sarawak, JPJ officers will remain on patrol to ensure that road users can travel with confidence and security.

The assistance provided in Sibu reflects JPJ Sarawak’s broader mission of balancing enforcement with community support. As festive operations continue, the department reaffirmed its dedication to protecting lives and maintaining order on the roads.
