MIRI – The Sarawak Road Transport Department (JPJ) Miri Branch, through its Motorcycle Enforcement Unit (UPB) and JPJ Mobile Unit, visited SMK Pujut Miri on Wednesday, 25 February 2026, to conduct the JPJ Cadet Programme.
The initiative was designed to give students early exposure to the functions and responsibilities of JPJ, particularly in enforcement and road safety.
The programme included an introductory session on JPJ’s role, alongside advocacy activities aimed at instilling awareness of safe road practices among young people.
Students participating in the programme were introduced to JPJ’s enforcement vehicles and assets, with opportunities to take photographs as part of their learning experience.
This hands-on engagement was intended to make the programme memorable while reinforcing the importance of discipline and responsibility as future road users.
JPJ Sarawak has consistently highlighted the importance of road safety education in schools. By engaging directly with students, the department aims to nurture a generation that is not only knowledgeable about traffic regulations but also committed to responsible behaviour on the road.
The JPJ Cadet Programme is part of a wider effort to strengthen community outreach and ensure that young people understand the impact of enforcement on public safety. Such initiatives are seen as crucial in reducing accidents and promoting a culture of compliance with traffic laws.
Officials noted that the involvement of students in cadet activities helps bridge the gap between enforcement agencies and the public. By fostering awareness at an early stage, JPJ hopes to instil values of discipline, teamwork, and civic responsibility.
JPJ Sarawak reaffirmed its commitment to expanding similar programmes across schools in the state. The department believes that consistent education and advocacy are key to producing a generation of road users who are disciplined, well-informed, and safety-conscious.
