JKR Sarawak Director Inspects Shop Building Collapse Site in Sibu

SIBU – YBhg. Datu Adj Prof Ir Ts Gs Br PMr Dr Cassidy anak Morris, Director of the Sarawak Public Works Department (JKR), visited the site of a shop building collapse along Jalan Pahlawan, Sibu, on 25 February 2026 to assess the situation and review the safety of surrounding structures.

During the inspection, the director carried out visual observations of the affected block. Findings revealed that the entire building structure was in a dangerous condition and posed a high risk of further collapse.

Authorities have since advised the public to strictly follow safety instructions issued by the Sibu Municipal Council. Residents and visitors are urged not to enter the restricted zone to avoid potential hazards.

The incident has raised concerns about structural integrity and safety in older commercial areas. JKR Sarawak has reiterated its commitment to monitoring infrastructure conditions and ensuring that safety measures are enforced to protect the public.
