Grassroots Leaders in Pakan Urged to Embrace Digital Literacy

PAKAN – Grassroots leaders in Sarawak have been urged to strengthen their digital knowledge to ensure rural communities are not left behind in the era of rapid technological advancement.

Pakan State Assemblyman Tan Sri William Mawan Ikom emphasised that mastering the fundamentals of digital literacy is crucial for community leaders.

He highlighted the importance of understanding emerging technologies such as digital currencies, QR codes, e-wallets, artificial intelligence (AI), and the Internet of Things (IoT).

Speaking at the Certificate of Appointment Ceremony for Tribal Heads, Village Security and Development Committees (JKKK), and JKKK Secretaries No. 47 in Pakan on Thursday, Tan Sri William explained that leaders at the grassroots level must be prepared to adapt to technological changes.

He noted that this readiness would improve administrative efficiency and enhance service delivery to rural residents.

He stressed that Community and Tribal Heads (KMKK) and JKKK members play a vital role in bridging the gap between modern technology and rural communities.

By embracing digital literacy, leaders can act as role models, encouraging villagers to adopt new tools and systems that can improve daily life and economic opportunities.

At the ceremony, Tan Sri William also underscored the importance of unity among community leaders. He said that strong collaboration and shared responsibility would ensure that rural communities benefit from technological progress while maintaining social harmony.

He congratulated all certificate recipients, expressing hope that they would carry out their duties with dedication and integrity.

“Community leaders must not only lead by example but also inspire others to embrace change for the well-being of the people,” he remarked.

The event saw 20 recipients receiving KMKK appointment certificates, while another 28 individuals were appointed as JKKK members.
