KUCHING (May 17) – The state-level Gawai Dayak Bazaar 2024 at the Batu Kawa New Township is set to be a spectacular event, with more than 30,000 visitors anticipated, according to Dayak National Bidayuh Association (DBNA) president Datu Ik Pahon Joyik.

This year’s bazaar is expected to surpass last year’s attendance of 20,000 visitors, who flocked to the Kuching South City Council compound for the festivities.

Prime Location and Diverse Offerings to Attract Crowds

Ik Pahon attributes the expected increase in visitors to the new location in a major commercial center, surrounded by residential estates, which he believes will draw larger crowds. “I hope everything runs smoothly. The bazaar promises to be a spectacular and exciting event for all,” he said during a site visit to oversee the final preparations.

Vendors and traders were busy setting up their stalls today, encouraged by Ik Pahon’s optimism and support.

Variety of Activities and Entertainment

The bazaar, featuring an array of food, beverage, and handicraft stalls, will officially commence tomorrow at 2pm and run daily until 11.30pm. A Zumba session is scheduled for 3pm, followed by a concert at 7.30pm featuring popular local artists and bands, promising lively entertainment for attendees.

The official launch of the bazaar will take place tonight at 7.30pm, with the closing ceremony slated for May 26.

DBNA Leads the Celebrations

DBNA plays a crucial role as the key coordinator for this year’s state-level Gawai Dayak celebration, with the bazaar being a highlight of the program.
