LONG BANGA — The Director of the Jabatan Kerja Raya Sarawak, Cassidy anak Morris, arrived in Long Banga today to carry out the Second Series Project Empowerment Visit, focusing on the implementation of development projects in rural areas.
The official visit underscores the state government’s continued commitment to strengthening infrastructure development in the interior regions of Sarawak. Long Banga, a remote settlement in northern Sarawak, remains one of the key focus areas under the rural transformation agenda.
According to a media statement issued by JKR Sarawak, the visit aims to review the progress of ongoing projects while reinforcing monitoring efforts to ensure all works proceed according to approved plans, technical specifications and local needs. The department emphasised that close supervision on the ground is crucial to ensure projects are completed on time and deliver long-term benefits to residents.
During the visit, special attention was given to the Rural Bridge Transformation Program, an initiative designed to replace old or dilapidated bridges in rural areas with safer, more durable structures. Many of the existing bridges in remote locations were built years ago and have deteriorated due to age and weather conditions, posing safety risks to users.
Under the programme, outdated wooden bridges are being upgraded to stronger and more resilient structures capable of supporting heavier loads and withstanding harsh environmental conditions. The improvements are expected to enhance road connectivity, facilitate smoother transportation of goods and services, and provide safer daily access for schoolchildren and villagers.
The empowerment visit also provides an opportunity for the department’s leadership to engage directly with project teams and assess challenges faced at the site level. By identifying issues early, corrective actions can be taken promptly to avoid delays and ensure quality standards are maintained.
The initiative reflects JKR Sarawak’s ongoing dedication to delivering development that reaches even the most remote communities. Strengthening rural infrastructure remains a fundamental pillar in supporting economic activities, improving public safety and enhancing overall quality of life in the state.
As Sarawak advances towards its broader development aspirations, efforts such as the Second Series Project Empowerment Visit demonstrate the importance of effective planning, close monitoring and strong leadership in ensuring that infrastructure projects bring meaningful impact to rural communities.
