MUKAH – The community programme under the Rakan Muda Gotong Royong programme has successfully brought together Mukah district residents, mosque members and officials at Darul Huda Mosque on 27 February for an evening of fellowship and service.
The event saw participants preparing and serving the public cendol from 4.30 pm onwards. The programme, which was arranged by the Darul Huda Mosque Management Committee in collaboration with the Mukah Division Youth and Sports Office, aimed to strengthen family ties within the community as well as instil a spirit of volunteerism among the younger generation.
The ceremony was officiated by YBhg Ustaz Haji Muhammad Adib bin Haji Saini, Mukah Division Islamic Religious Officer; Encik Awang Yusri bin Awang Adeni, Mukah District Education Officer and Tuan Insp. Kamarul Aiman (Mukah District Police Headquarters); and Ustaz Haji Jammie bin Andrew (Imam Setia Raja Mukah Mosque). His presence was a reminder that community-driven initiatives are the lifeblood of unity and goodwill.
The onus of active involvement in charitable and social activities was a part of the plan as well, said organisers who felt food must also provide sustenance for such purposes. Engaging mosque congregants and local youth, the event showcased the importance of collaboration and the concept of gotong royong in fostering stronger communities.
Residents hailed the initiative, saying such programmes help foster a sense of belonging and help reinforce the role of mosques as centres of community life. The sharing of cendol was a symbolic act that represented the virtue of generosity, which is central to Sarawak’s cultural and religious traditions.
The Mukah Division Youth and Sports Office does not rule out the possibility of conducting similar activities, as those who are responsible for such events have contributed to building civic responsibility while promoting the relationship between institutions and local communities. Youth engagement in these programmes is important to ensure there is a sustainability of social development within communities, officials stressed.
The event went well, and the collaborative approach between both local authorities, religious establishments and communities came together again for a successful evening. The programme, they said, embodied the spirit of Mukah in fostering friendship, unity and empathy. Organisers also thanked all involved.
