KUCHING – Kuching South City Council mayor Wee Hong Seng represented Deputy Premier Dr Sim Kui Hian at the Stone Emperor Ancestor’s Birthday Celebration Dinner held at Batu Caves, marking a meaningful cultural and religious occasion for the Chinese community.
The celebration gathered devotees, community leaders, and residents to honour the Stone Emperor Ancestor, regarded as both a spiritual symbol and a reflection of cultural unity. The event highlighted the role of faith in strengthening family ties and community connections.
Speaking during the dinner, the mayor thanked organisers and participants for continuing the long-standing tradition. He said Sarawak’s multicultural harmony remains one of its greatest strengths, where different faiths and cultures live side by side with mutual respect.
“The Batu Caves Stone Emperor Ancestor is not only a symbol of faith but also part of Chinese cultural heritage. It brings families together and encourages community activities,” he said, adding that the spirit of respect among religions and cultures creates a strong sense of harmony in Sarawak.
Dato Wee also spoke about the importance of community involvement in local development. He said steady leadership and cooperation between temples, residents, and the Kuching South City Council (MBKS) help ensure continued progress in the city.
He added that the council remains committed to improving urban management and making Kuching a more liveable city. At the same time, he encouraged young people to take an active role in community building, helping preserve cultural traditions while contributing to a cleaner and more vibrant environment.
Dato Wee ended his speech with well wishes for prosperity for the Stone Emperor Ancestor and good health, happiness, and success for everyone present. He reaffirmed the importance of safeguarding harmony and working together toward a brighter future for Kuching.
