SPAOH – The construction of the Sungai Paku Bridge at Jalan Tanjung Sebekut, Spaoh, is progressing well and is expected to open to traffic in April 2026, according to the latest update from the Sarawak Government.
During a site visit on Saturday, Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, who also serves as the Minister of Infrastructure and Port Development, reviewed the progress of the project.
He emphasised that the bridge is a crucial development for the Betong Division, aimed at strengthening rural infrastructure and improving connectivity for residents.
The RM36.9 million project, implemented under the state’s infrastructure expansion agenda, has already reached 81.94 percent completion.
Once operational, the bridge will provide safer and more efficient access for local communities, while also facilitating the movement of goods and services.
Datuk Amar Uggah noted that the bridge will not only enhance road safety but also stimulate economic activities in Spaoh and surrounding areas.
Improved connectivity is expected to benefit farmers, traders, and small businesses by reducing travel time and easing transportation of produce to markets.
Residents have long awaited the completion of the Sungai Paku Bridge, which is seen as a vital link in the region’s transport network.
The project reflects the government’s commitment to ensuring rural communities are not left behind in Sarawak’s development agenda.
The bridge is part of a wider push to modernise infrastructure across the state, with particular focus on rural divisions where accessibility remains a challenge.
By investing in projects such as this, the government aims to uplift living standards and create opportunities for sustainable growth.
With the opening scheduled for April, the Sungai Paku Bridge is set to become a landmark development for Spaoh, symbolising progress and improved quality of life for the people of Betong Division.
