KOTA KINABALU – The Sabah Road Transport Department (JPJ) carried out a traffic enforcement operation at Kota Kinabalu International Airport (KKIA) on Sunday, 8 March 2026.
The operation focused on maintaining smooth traffic flow and ensuring drivers follow road regulations in one of the state’s busiest public areas.
During the monitoring exercise, JPJ officers issued several notices under JPJ Notice (P) 22 and JPJ Notice (P) 23 to motorists who committed traffic offences.
The violations included ignoring traffic signals, parking in restricted areas, and blocking traffic along main routes.
JPJ officers explained that enforcement in busy locations such as airports helps maintain order and prevent congestion.
Airports experience constant vehicle movement, and traffic violations in these zones disrupt access for passengers, staff, and service vehicles.
Motorists were reminded to follow traffic signals and use designated parking spaces to avoid penalties. The department stated that similar operations will continue from time to time to ensure consistent traffic management and safety standards.
Kota Kinabalu International Airport serves as a major gateway for domestic and international travel, handling thousands of passengers each day.
Proper traffic control around the airport plays an important role in preventing delays and maintaining access to the terminal.
The operation forms part of JPJ Sabah’s broader effort to improve road safety across the state. By focusing enforcement on high-traffic areas such as KKIA, authorities aim to reduce violations and promote responsible driving habits.
JPJ Sabah also urged all road users to maintain discipline on the road. Following traffic regulations supports safety and keeps public spaces orderly for everyone.
Authorities confirmed that enforcement efforts will remain a priority to ensure safe and efficient traffic movement throughout Sabah.
