KUCHING – Continuous heavy rain since early morning has caused several areas in Kuching to experience flooding, prompting immediate monitoring by the Malaysian Civil Defence Force.
The Malaysian Civil Defence Force, better known as Angkatan Pertahanan Awam Malaysia, through its Kuching District office, has deployed personnel to monitor affected locations across the city. The operation began after water levels rose in several low-lying areas following hours of non-stop rainfall.
According to APM Kuching, the monitoring exercise is aimed at assessing the current flood situation on the ground. Officers are keeping track of water levels, identifying high-risk areas and ensuring that residents remain safe. The team is also on standby to carry out evacuation procedures should the situation worsen.
Continuous rainfall has raised concerns among residents, especially those living in flood-prone zones. Some roads have reportedly become difficult to pass due to rising water, although no major road closures have been officially announced at the time of reporting. Authorities are closely observing weather conditions and drainage systems to prevent further risks.
APM Kuching has assured the public that it is fully prepared to respond to any emergency. Its personnel are working together with other relevant agencies to coordinate efforts and ensure that assistance can be delivered swiftly if needed. The agency stressed that public cooperation is crucial in managing such situations effectively.
Residents are advised to remain alert, particularly those staying near rivers and low-lying areas. They are urged to follow official announcements and comply with instructions issued by the authorities. Parents are also reminded to keep a close watch on children and avoid allowing them to play in floodwaters, which can be dangerous.
Members of the public who are facing emergencies or require assistance are encouraged to contact APM Kuching at 082-252940 or 082-252941. In urgent cases, they may call the national emergency line at 999 for immediate response.
APM Kuching will continue to monitor the flood situation from time to time. Authorities have reiterated that early awareness and public cooperation are key to ensuring the safety and well-being of the community during periods of prolonged heavy rain.
