New Secondary School Planned for Pantu to Enhance Education Access

PANTU – Plans are underway to establish a new secondary school in Pantu District, aimed at meeting the growing educational needs of local students. The proposal, raised in Parliament by Dato Sri Doris Sophia Brodie, Member of Parliament for Sri Aman, has entered the initial planning stage with relevant authorities.

Discussions have already taken place between the Pantu District Office and community leaders, highlighting the importance of expanding educational facilities in the area. While construction is not expected to begin immediately, groundwork has been laid to ensure the project progresses steadily.

“Although the construction may not be implemented in the near future, the planning has been made and efforts towards its realisation will continue,” said Dato Sri Doris Sophia Brodie during the Annual General Meeting of the Parent-Teacher Association (PIBG) of Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Pantu.

She emphasised that collaboration between schools, parents, and the wider community is vital to strengthening the education system, particularly in rural districts. According to her, the PTA serves as a crucial platform for parents to support initiatives that enhance academic performance and nurture well-rounded students.

“PIBG plays an important role as a bridge between the school and parents. Through close cooperation, we can ensure that every student receives the best support to achieve excellence in education,” she added.

At the same event, Dato Sri Doris Sophia Brodie announced a contribution of RM10,000 from the Small Rural Project (MRP) to the SK Pantu PTA Fund. The allocation is intended to support educational programmes and student development activities, reinforcing the school’s efforts to provide quality learning opportunities.

The proposal for a secondary school in Pantu reflects broader efforts by the government to improve access to education in rural Sarawak. Many communities in the state face challenges such as limited infrastructure and long travel distances to existing schools. Establishing a new institution in Pantu would reduce these barriers, offering local students a more accessible pathway to secondary education.

Education remains a key priority in Sarawak’s development agenda, with authorities recognising that investment in schools is essential for long-term community growth. The initiative in Pantu is expected to complement ongoing projects across the state that aim to modernise facilities and expand opportunities for young learners.

Community leaders have welcomed the proposal, noting that improved educational access will not only benefit students but also strengthen family and community ties. The school is anticipated to serve as a hub for learning and development, fostering greater participation from parents and local organisations.

As planning continues, stakeholders remain optimistic that the project will eventually materialise, providing a lasting impact on the district’s educational landscape.
