MATU – The Matu District-Level Khatam and Tadarus Al-Quran Ceremony on 15 March 2026 brought together 60 participants from across generations, symbolising unity and shared devotion during the holy month of Ramadan.
The programme, which also included an Iftar Jamaie, was attended by Dato Murshid Diraja Datuk Dr Juanda Jaya, Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department (Integrity and Ombudsman) and State Assemblyman for Jemoreng.
He emphasised that the involvement of school students, villagers, and elders reflected strong community support for promoting the Al-Quran and enriching the spiritual atmosphere of Ramadan.
Dr Juanda noted that such initiatives would continue annually with the cooperation of local communities, aiming to encourage the practice of reading and appreciating the Al-Quran.
He also extended festive greetings, urging residents to strengthen ties through visiting and fellowship, which he described as vital to nurturing togetherness.
The ceremony included the presentation of souvenirs to participants of the tadarus as a gesture of appreciation for their dedication.
Organisers highlighted that the event was not only about religious observance but also about reinforcing bonds between government agencies, NGOs, private organisations, and individuals who contributed to its success.
Community leaders and officials were present, including Hamidah Halpi, Matu District Officer; Pemancha Masaleh @ Che’Jeni Shahdan, Chairman of the Matu District Mosque JKP; as well as heads of departments, tribal leaders, and village representatives. Their attendance underscored the collective effort to ensure the programme was meaningful and inclusive.
The gathering demonstrated how Ramadan activities can serve as platforms for unity, bridging generations and strengthening community spirit.
By combining religious devotion with social engagement, the event highlighted the importance of shared values in sustaining harmony across Matu District.
